​The design is a creative response to the constraints and opportunities presented by the site, and Dulwich Estate requirements, resulting in an original take on the typical domestic extension project.

The project retains the original extension, and replaces the coach house, essentially extending the extension. The new extension, on basement, ground, first and second floors, evokes elements of Foster’s treatment of the coach house and the original roof forms with angled facades.

The original three-story house was built in 1978. It had a gabled roof, a semi-subterraneous basement, a first floor and a second floor. In 2020, the family decided to renovate and expand to create space for three apartment units.
