The apartment is on the second floor of a new building located within a large real estate operation. The major problem for the family was to be able to add 3 rooms to this accommodation, a modular room serving as an office, occasional bed, viewing lounge and storage. We then thought of a hybrid space inspired by the very idea of the cocoon.
Wrapped in curtains, the cocoon allows each member of the family to isolate themselves from the living room via this visual filter providing softness and intimacy. Its geometry composed of a curve allows fluid movement with the rest of the home. Furthermore, upon entering the accommodation, the gap created by the layout offers a direct view to the outside. The slanted geometry of the facade of the rooms is modeled on it in order to harmonize and create a dynamic with the living room.
The layout of the room includes a desk with a wall at mid-height, high enough to hide all the computer equipment. The bench seat has 3 seats and includes large boxes on casters underneath. Its dimensions also allow one person to sleep.
The custom-made kitchen, open to the living room but placed in a volume separated from the rest of the room, is ergonomically designed. All the storage spaces are drawers with integrated handles and it offers two large shelves of worktops.
Each bedroom has large open storage spaces adapted to the occupants: dressing rooms for parents and reduced depth shelves for the child's bedroom. Linen curtains allow you to hide stored items and make them easy to access. They also bring warmth to these so-called night rooms.
The overall materiality of the apartment is in terracotta shades tending towards pink, providing a warm and natural atmosphere. The furniture in the cocoon and the kitchen is made of okoumé plywood. All the floors in the apartment are oak parquet or polished concrete for the bathrooms. In the kitchen, we find wall tiles made from marine sediments contrasting with the recycled stone worktops. Finally, all the furnishing fabrics, curtains and dividing nets are in shades of pink. Text description by the architects.
