Yugo Apartment

Location: Belgrade, Serbia
Year: 2024
Architects: Marina Yurieva

Marina Yurieva has renovated a 1970s rented apartment in the Vračar area of Belgrade where she lives with her partner and the cat.

When the couple was looking for rental housing, it was necessary to find an apartment with original elements such as wooden floor, windows and doors for further preservation. Marina's idea was to change the interior by filling it with objects.

Since the couple collects records, mostly soul and reggae singles, the living room is organised for listening to music. In the dining area of this space one wall was repainted from the dark grey to light blue. Sideboard, display cabinet, dining table and two Aldo Jacober folding chairs have been retained in the apartment by landlords. As for the other seating furniture, two František Jirák dining chairs and the 60s soviet lounge chair were found on the street and carefully restored as well as the vintage Niko Kralj magazine rack that was bought from a local online shop. There is also Artek Stool 60 from Paimio Sanatorium 90s Anniversary edition which can be used as a seating as well as a table.

The bedroom is filled with a wooden IKEA bed and two bedside Kartell Componibili storage units. Curtains were made of blue linen to add more colour to the space. The home office is equipped with a simple pine IKEA table, Artek wall shelf and Vitra Evo-C chair.

The apartment has a lot of decorative elements along with collection of lamps: 70s vintage soviet chandelier, Louis Poulsen PH5 Mini, Flos Parentesi 50 Anniversary edition, Artemide Nessino, Flos Mayday outdoor, vintage 1968 Louis Poulsen Flowerpot, Artemide Tolomeo Mini, IKEA Varmblixt, Artemide Eclisse, Flos Bellhop, two vintage 1970s Örsjö Belysning sconces and two Artemide Teti lamps.

Throughout the interior on the walls there are posters by Dima Pantyushin, Monika Lang, Ekaterina Trukhan; original paintings and analog pictures by Marina Yurieva. Text description by the architects.
