The NVZ Itzling (Local Supply Center), positioned in the northern part of Salzburg, serves as a striking urban landmark and gateway to the city. Its bold architectural form, combined with the strategic alignment of its structure along the street, allows the building to seamlessly integrate into its surroundings while standing out with a unique and distinctive presence.
The building's design was the result of an architectural competition organized by the Raiffeisen Association, which was won by architect Johannes Schallhammer in collaboration with Lechner & Lechner (ARGE Lechner Lechner Schallhammer), executed through the ARGE L - S - S partnership (Lechner, Schallhammer, Scheicher). The building operates on several urban planning layers. The ground floor, with its almost 200-meter-long glazed façade along Raiffeisenstraße, reflects the dynamic flow of traffic, creating a visual interaction between the building and the surrounding streetscape.
A publicly accessible green terrace on the first floor, with 40 trees and more than 2,000 plants, offers a serene retreat within the commercial district. This rooftop garden also serves as a functional link, connecting the building’s entrances with nearby pedestrian and bicycle paths, and establishing a direct connection to the adjacent Goethesiedlung. The terraced landscape integrates naturally into the surrounding topography, ensuring the building’s seamless connection to its environment. The green slope extending toward Goethesiedlung further enhances this integration.
The office floors above are characterized by their three-dimensional, angled façade elements, which not only enhance the dynamic shape of the building but also emphasize key visual axes from the surrounding streets. Meticulous material selection and detailed façade work further reinforce the building's architectural significance in its urban context.
The basement features an extensive underground parking garage, housing almost all parking spaces to maintain an uninterrupted ground level for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, 250 bicycle parking spots are provided near the entrances. The ground-floor retail spaces meet the daily needs of nearby residents, the Techno-Z complex, and surrounding office buildings, ensuring that the local supply needs of northern Salzburg are well-served.
