This is a renovation plan for a three-story RC (reinforced concrete) house located in a dense residential area. The client, who usually lived with the curtains closed, requested a space that would allow for a rich life without monotony.
The existing layout had a central stairwell, which divided the space into north and south, making each room feel smaller than the numerical measurements suggested. However, this stairwell featured a curtain wall, which was expected to serve as a light well and connect the various spaces.
By removing as many walls around the stairs as possible, the plan included a living room on the south side and a dining kitchen (DK) on the north side, connecting the spaces through the stairwell. This design aimed to bring light into the entire house and create a visual flow, allowing the previously divided spaces to connect.
Curves were used in the spatial composition to subtly convey a sense of "softness" and "harmony" associated with round shapes, creating a dynamic environment.
Materials with a soft impression, such as plaster and oak, were harmonized with harder materials like concrete, stone, and iron, resulting in a spacious and connected atmosphere.
It is hoped that the space, which changes expression with natural light, will allow for a rich life. Text description by the architects.
